Customer identification and anti-money-laundering policy (KYC/AML)
This policy explains why the Alif AI platform requires identity verification from every user, how the check runs and by which rules we monitor operations. Verification serves three goals: preventing fraud, protecting your account and meeting the applicable requirements of the Republic of Tajikistan on combating money laundering and unlawful exchange.
1. Introduction
A KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) policy is a mandatory part of any financial platform's work. It lets us confirm that every account belongs to a real person and that unlawful funds do not enter the system. For you it means extra safety: a verified account cannot be anonymously taken over and is restored quickly.
Verification is mandatory for every new user regardless of the amount involved. The treatment is uniform and transparent: everyone passes the same rule.
2. What KYC is
KYC is the customer identification process: we establish who you are and that the details you gave are correct. The first stage collects basic information (name, date of birth, city of residence); the identification document is then compared with a live image. The result is recorded in your profile, after which financial operations open.
The purpose of KYC is not to supervise anyone's private life but to keep accounts real: if your details become outdated, we will ask for an update.
3. What AML is
AML is the set of measures preventing money laundering and unlawful exchange. It splits into three directions: risk assessment (which customers need deeper checks), transaction monitoring (recognising suspicious patterns) and reporting to competent authorities as the law requires. Any unusually large or irregular operation receives additional analysis.
These measures do not inconvenience ordinary users: for people moving lawful funds the checks are invisible and take no extra time.
4. Why identity verification is required
There are three main reasons. First, fraud prevention: anonymous accounts are used to steal from others. Second, your protection: if someone tries to open an account in your name, verification stops them. Third, the law: financial services must know their customers under applicable rules. Without verification we cannot offer the service.
5. Required documents
Two primary documents are used: an ID (Tajik passport or ID card) and a proof of residence (a document showing your address, for example a utility bill). A live selfie with the document serves as the third layer: it confirms the document belongs to the person in the photo.
For some accounts a source-of-funds check is also requested: a document showing the money comes from employment or lawful activity. We do not request documents beyond this list.
6. The verification process step by step
The process has five steps: (1) you complete the registration form; (2) in the personal dashboard you upload the documents and take a live selfie; (3) the automated system reads the document details and compares them with the photo; (4) if doubts remain, a specialist reviews the case manually; (5) the result arrives by email and is recorded in your profile. If anything fails, we state exactly which part needs to be repeated.
7. Enhanced due diligence (EDD)
For some cases the standard check is not enough: large operation volumes, complex ownership structures or unusual statistical signals. In such cases enhanced due diligence applies: we may request the source of funds, an explanation of financial activity or additional documents. The goal is to understand the logic of the operations, not to delay you.
EDD applies to users exceeding defined volume thresholds or with specific structures. All requests are kept within the privacy policy.
8. Verification timelines
Automated verification usually completes within minutes. Manual review takes up to 24 business hours, and up to 48 hours in busy periods. If a document is blurry or the photo is dark, we immediately explain the reason for rejection so you can correct it. The overall timeline depends on the quality of the uploads.
9. Reasons for rejection
Verification may be declined or paused when: the document is expired or unreadable; the form data does not match the document; the selfie and the document do not correspond; signs of digital alteration or document forgery are detected; requested information is incomplete. It also applies if you appear on an international screening list or the account is opened from a non-permitted country.
In every case we explain the reason. You may submit new documents or contact support.
10. Transaction monitoring
Every deposit and withdrawal passes through the monitoring system. It learns usual patterns and separates irregular operations: for example, depositing a large amount and immediately withdrawing it to another account. For such operations we may request a short explanation: the source of the funds and the purpose of the transfer.
If serious suspicion arises, we may temporarily hold an operation until the situation is reviewed. This measure protects all users and is released quickly once the situation is clear.
11. User responsibility
You are obliged to provide truthful, current and complete details: your real name, actual address and valid documents. Operating an account in another person's name, submitting false information or concealing the source of funds violates this policy. As a result the account may be frozen and operations returned.
If your circumstances change (for example name or address), update the profile details within 30 days. This helps us keep your account correct and active.
12. Data storage and protection
KYC/AML data is processed under the privacy policy: encryption, restricted access and logging of every staff action. Documents are kept only for the period prescribed by law and are then deleted or anonymised. Read the full details in the privacy policy.
13. Data transfers
Verification data goes to: technology verification providers (only for document comparison), IT services (under confidentiality guarantees) and competent authorities upon a formal lawful request. No data is ever provided for advertising or sale. Every transfer is recorded in the audit system.
14. Compliance with requirements
Alif AI operates in line with the applicable requirements of the Republic of Tajikistan on combating money laundering and unlawful exchange, together with the applicable financial requirements. We review the policy regularly and update it as the law changes. The platform's regulatory status is described on the licensing page.
15. Contact and support
Send any question about identity verification, documents or transaction monitoring to [email protected]. The Client Support & Compliance department answers during Monday to Friday, 9:00–18:00 (Dushanbe time). If your verification is on hold, include your profile number and the date you submitted the documents: it speeds things up.
Practical verification questions
My document carries a different name. What now? If your name changed officially, submit the new document together with the change record (for example a name certificate). Your profile updates in one step.
The selfie and the document do not match, but it is really me. Ordinary technical reasons are possible: poor lighting, an old photo. Take a fresh photo in good light: this usually resolves the case.
I am a citizen of another country living in Tajikistan. Verification follows your valid documents; contact support for details. Our goal is correct identification, not excluding anyone.
Where is my verification data kept? In dedicated encrypted systems with restricted access. The retention period and deletion method are defined by the privacy policy: read it on the privacy page.
